Abstract

The Data Vacuum: The Impact of the Gender Divide in Research and Clinical Trials

Women and girls with bleeding disorders and those with the potential to menstruate (WGPPM) continue to be underrecognized and undiagnosed.  Because bleeding disorders research focus has been traditionally on males, there is a serious knowledge gap on how these conditions affect WGPPM physically, physiologically, mentally and economically.  Non-inclusion of WGPPM in clinical trials has resulted in a lack of data, missing real-world evidence, poor understanding of how bleeding disorders affect this population and lack of knowledge about how existing therapies work in WGPPM. This session will cover the history of how we got there and the benefit and need to include WGPPM in research and clinical trials.
