Sports Participation In the Era of Innovative Therapies / What are the Clinical Benefits of Sports Participation in Patients with Bleeding Disorders

Clayton Kubrick.

Abstract

Advances in hemostatic management, including new factor replacement products, non factor therapies, and emerging gene based treatments, have reshaped care for individuals with bleeding disorders. As bleeding rates fall and joint health is better preserved, sports participation has moved from a historically restricted activity to an important element of comprehensive care. This presentation explores the clinical benefits of sports engagement for patients with bleeding disorders, highlighting gains in musculoskeletal strength, proprioception, joint stability, and overall physical conditioning that together help lower the risk of injury and hemarthrosis. Alongside these physical benefits, participation in sports supports psychosocial well being by strengthening confidence, social connection, and quality of life. In a time of rapidly evolving therapies, recognizing the therapeutic value of sports participation is essential for clinicians, patients, and families working to promote long term health and functional independence.
