Abstract
How to identify a guideline that you can trust Susan Goodman
Practice guidelines aim to provide guidance to health care professionals on treatment and/or screening to improve patient outcomes as most MDs lack time or capacity to evaluate the literature themselves. However, there are sources of controversy, including discordance among guidelines that may arise from a lack of adherence to development or reporting standards. This presentation will review the features that mark a trustworthy guideline, such as clarity of scope and context, involvement of appropriate stakeholders, clear methodology, concordance between the strength of the recommendation and the certainty of the evidence, and explicit management of potential conflicts of interest.
